ALCOHOL AWARENESS WEEK, 19 – 25 NOVEMBER 2018

Alcohol misuse has been identified as a significant public health and social issue in Northern Ireland over many years.  A Coroner has described it as “the greatest healthcare problem facing Northern Ireland”.  The latest statistics suggest 12,000 people are admitted to hospital each year with alcohol related problems in N.I. with 170,000 people drinking hazardly and 47,000 drinking harmfully.

Behind these statistics is the Untold Story of families and friends of problem drinkers living each day with uncertainty, deceit, financial insecurity, and in some cases violence or emotional and physical abuse.

Al-Anon Family Groups is there for families and friends of Problem Drinkers.  Our Information Office in Belfast is open Monday – Friday 10am – 1.00pm. Our contact number is 02890682368 and our helpline is operated from 6pm – 11pm, 365 days per year.

Al-Anon Family Groups UK & Eire is launching a new campaign “The Untold Story” during Alcohol Awareness Week (19 – 25 November 2018) to encourage more people living with problem drinkers to find their local Al-Anon meetings which run weekly throughout Northern Ireland.
