Third Sunday of Easter

The Northern Bishops have published a letter
this week urging Catholics to use their vote responsibly.  Fr Damian will read it at Mass this weekend in advance of the Stormont
election on Thursday.  The Bishops do not endorse any particular party but point out the most important issues for Christians:

  • The need to tackle poverty
  • Equal dignity for all—including the unborn.
  • A warm welcome to refugees and those in need.
  • Care for each other and the environment.
  • Respect for religious freedom.
  • Political stability to serve the common good.

They also ask us to pray for our politicians and our community at this important time.

Fr Damian

May is the month of special devotion to Our Lady.  Mary is the greatest example to us of a Christian who loves God and who serves others.  She teaches us how to pray and to listen for the voice of God speaking to our hearts.  And as mother of Christ, her prayers for us have a very special power.  We should look for ways to honour Mary throughout the month especially in our homes or families.  Why not commit to praying the rosary (or at least a decade) regularly as a family throughout the month?

Our garden of remembrance for babies who died before or after birth will be formally opened and blessed by the Vicar General of the Diocese of Down & Connor, Mgr Patrick Delargy, on Sunday May 15th after 10am Mass.

As part of the opening Mgr Delargy will unveil the plaque of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, which parishioners raised funds for last year.  We look forward to this special occasion and keep all those affected by the loss of a child in our prayers.

If you need help or you would like to find out more about getting involved in the work of the SVP contact us on 07860 455 549 or by speaking to any member of the society.  Thank you for supporting our collections.

The Knights are marking the centenary of the death of their founder, local clergyman Canon James O’Neill on May 6th and 7th at the Marine Hotel in Ballycastle.

You are invited to join their events with guest speakers:

Friday 6th May 2pm—Bishop Noel Treanor followed by Dr. Eamon Phoenix with a talk on the social, political and economic times in Ireland one hundred years ago

Saturday 7th May 2pm - Mickey Harte, All Ireland
winning manager telling his faith journey.

Ballymena parish are having their annual May novena to Our Lady from Sunday May 1st to Monday May 9th this year.  The novena takes place at St Patrick’s Church, Crebilly Road (just outside the town) at 7.30pm each evening.  Fr Damian will be guest celebrant at the opening Mass next Sunday evening, and on the following nights there will be guest speakers alongside the rosary and novena prayers.  All are very welcome to attend.

OLD & NEW@No.5

At our parish shop the new stock is going down a storm - thanks to everyone for their kind compliments so far! Check out our lovely watercolour of Drumaheglis and other nice pieces of art which arrived last weekend.  We still have some sets of planters left, bird baths and buzzy bee garden decorations.  Our tractor seats, llamas, lying dogs, candle houses, hares, rocking horses and birds continue to prove popular with both old and new customers too! So come along and purchase something that little bit different…

Open Wednesday - Saturday 10.00am- 4.30pm and we are based at 5 Gate End, Ballymoney!

Full board in hotel: 5 nights (13-18 July) from £685. For further information contact the Pilgrimage Office on (028) 9077 0162 or visit
