Parish Bulletin

1st August 2021

Eighteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Many of us will have been watching the Olympic Games this week and cheered on the athletes.  They should inspire us in our spiritual lives too - just as athletes go on special diets to improve their strength, so God wants us to give us the food that will help us grow in holiness.  That's the Bread from heaven that Jesus speaks about in the Gospel - the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist.

If we want to reach our goal of eternal life in God's kingdom we need the power that comes from receiving the Body of Christ regularly.
Holy Communion gives us strength and it is the greatest prize on earth.

FACE COVERINGS

The Northern Ireland Executive has updated the guidelines for face coverings in churches at this time:

  • There is still a legal requirement to wear face coverings on entering and leaving the church building.
  • When people are in their pew then face coverings are recommended but optional.
  • The priest should continue to wear a mask when distributing Holy Communion.

PRAYER OF ST JOHN VIANNEY

St John Vianney is the patron saint of parish priests and his feast day is this Wednesday.  This is a prayer he wrote:

I love You, O my God, and my only desire is to love You until the last breath of my life.

I love You, O my infinitely lovable God,

and I would rather die loving You,
   than live without loving You.

I love You, Lord, and the only grace I ask
 is to love You eternally.

My God, if my tongue cannot say in every moment
 that I love You,

I want my heart to repeat it to You
as often as I draw breath.  Amen.
