Fourteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

In today’s readings we hear about the gift of peace that God wants to give his people.  This should encourage us to turn to God in prayer when we feel anxious or concerned.  The Lord wants to share his peace with us too.

But notice in the Gospel that God’s peace doesn’t stay with us if we don’t make him truly welcome.  We are always free to turn God away.  So if we want to receive the blessings of Jesus we have to welcome him into our lives fully.  So often we can put up barriers to God’s grace.  There can be parts of our lives that we don’t want God to share.  Let’s ask the Lord to help us spot any barriers of sin or indifference so that we can tear them down and welcome him in.

JULY - MONTH OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD

Having celebrated Our Lady in May and the Sacred Heart in June, the Church dedicates the month of July to the Precious Blood of Jesus.

One well known prayer to the Precious Blood is the three o'clock prayer of St Faustina:

O blood and water, which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us, I trust in You.

O krwi i wodo, któraś wytrysnęła z serca
Jezusowego jako zdrój miłosierdzia dla nas, ufam tobie.

In her writings on the Divine Mercy, St Faustina says that Jesus taught her this prayer and promised

"when you say this prayer, with a contrite heart and with faith on behalf of some sinner, I will give them the grace of conversion."
