Fourteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

In today’s readings we hear about the gift of peace that God wants to give his people.  This should encourage us to turn to God in prayer when we feel anxious or concerned.  The Lord wants to share his peace with us too.

But notice in the Gospel that God’s peace doesn’t stay with us if we don’t make him truly welcome.  We are always free to turn God away.  So if we want to receive the blessings of Jesus we have to welcome him into our lives fully.  So often we can put up barriers to God’s grace.  There can be parts of our lives that we don’t want God to share.  Let’s ask the Lord to help us spot any barriers of sin or indifference so that we can tear them down and welcome him in.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our collection last week and to the volunteers who made it possible.  We raised an amazing £1385.41, easily beating our figure from 2019 by over £250.  Along with the regular red box collection this helps us to offer support to families in crisis situations in our own community.

If you need help or you would like to find out more about getting involved in the work of the SVP contact us on 07860 455 549 or by speaking to any member of the society.  Thank you for supporting our collections.

The monthly Mass at Our Lady & St John the Evangelist church in Dervock is this Tuesday at 7pm.

Please note that confessions will finish early this Friday evening at 6pm and that there will be no Mass at 7pm.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Cemetery Sunday prayers in person or online last weekend , and to those who supported the collection. We would like to thank in a particular way our groundskeeper Sean Kerr for the tremendous work he puts into keeping the cemetery so beautiful all year round.  We would also like to pay our thanks to Aidan Reid for the sensitive work he carries out on behalf of families in times of bereavement.

This summer marks the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Fr Noel Fitzpatrick, one of two priests of Down & Connor diocese killed during the Troubles while serving their parishioners.  On Friday (8th July) a special anniversary Mass for Fr Noel will take place at St MacNissi's, Magherahoney organised by his family.  Mass begins at 7.30pm and will be followed by refreshments in the hall where there will be a display of photographs and items connected to Fr Noel.  All are welcome to attend.

Having celebrated Our Lady in May and the Sacred Heart in June, the Church dedicates the month of July to the Precious Blood of Jesus.

One well known prayer to the Precious Blood is the three o'clock prayer of St Faustina:

O blood and water, which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us, I trust in You.

O krwi i wodo, któraś wytrysnęła z serca
Jezusowego jako zdrój miłosierdzia dla nas, ufam tobie.

In her writings on the Divine Mercy, St Faustina says that Jesus taught her this prayer and promised

"when you say this prayer, with a contrite heart and with faith on behalf of some sinner, I will give them the grace of conversion."
