Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time

On Friday evening we begin the weekend with the lovely feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.  We celebrate how Mary appeared to St Bernadette in the French town in 1858.  Since then it has become one of the world’s most important places of pilgrimage with a special mission to care for the sick.  We are delighted to hear that the annual Down & ConnorPilgrimage to Lourdes returns this year—see details on the next page.

The feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is also the World Day of Prayer for the Sick.  We will be marking that at Mass on Friday evening and again at our Mass on BBC Radio Ulster on Sunday morning.  Our parish has a long connection with the local hospitals, nursing homes and surgeries which we will be celebrating in our broadcast.  As we look forward to the end of Covid pandemic let’s keep the sick and their families in our prayers, along with all those who care for them.

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

The Down & Connor Pilgrimage to Lourdes returns this year after a two year gap.  It runs for five nights from 13-18 July and costs £685

Our pilgrimage includes the celebration of Masses (including at the grotto), celebrations of Sacrament of the Sick and Confession, participation in the Blessed Sacrament and Candlelight rosary processions and the Stations of the Cross.  There is also plenty of free time for personal prayer and
relaxation in this beautiful town in the south of France.

Due to Covid restrictions there will be no medical or nursing support available this year.  Pilgrims must be able to travel independently or be accompanied by someone who can provide for all their care and support needs.

Application forms are available from the sacristy before or after Mass.  For further information please contact the pilgrimage office in Belfast: 028 9077 0162 or email lourdes@downandconnor.org
