14th November 2021

Thirty Third Sunday of Ordinary Time

On Sunday afternoon at 3pm the bishops of Ireland will gather at Our Lady’s shrine in Knock to offer a special Mass for the souls of those who have died during the Covid pandemic.  The bishops invite us to join them in prayer.

At the same time, Fr Damian will be representing our parish at the annual remembrance service at the war memorial.  Understandably not all of us will mark Remembrance Sunday, but it is still
important that we pray for those who have died in war and conflict.

The Bible reminds us it is “a good and holy thing to pray for the dead”.  Through our prayers on Sunday and throughout November may we assist many souls on their journey to heaven.

PRAYING FOR OUR PARISH

This week we pray in a special way for the Boyle, Graham, Gregg and McErlain households.

BISHOPS' MASS IN KNOCK

The National Memorial Mass for those who have died of Covid-19 in Ireland will take place at Knock Basilica on Sunday afternoon at 3pm.  The Mass will be available to watch online through the Knock website (www.knockshrine.ie) and Facebook.

PARISH FINANCES

Thank you for your support of our parish collections.  Although these have been difficult times for many households you have continued to give great support to our parish and to the regular diocesan and charitable collections.  May God bless you for your generosity—and keep up the good work!

Boxes of envelopes for the next year are now available at the back of the church at Mass times.  Boxes will be delivered to those who are not attending Mass over the next few weeks.

An increasing number of parishioners now make their contribution through a standing order. This is a very convenient way to pay.  Standing order forms are also available in the church.  Form A should be sent to your bank and Form B left in to the parochial house.

You can also set up a standing order online or make a one-off payment to our account with these details:

Parish of Ballymoney & Derrykeighan

Sort code: 95-06-79

Account No: 10020192.

Please make cheques payable to:

CHRIST THE KING

Next Sunday (21st) is the feast of Christ the King, the last feast of the Church’s liturgical year.  There will be public adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 12noon to 3.50pm and then our Sunday afternoon devotions (Vespers & Benediction) will also be open to the public at 4pm.  A plenary indulgence will be granted to those who take part in the devotions under the usual conditions.

COVID REGULATIONS

Updated covid regulations for churches now require social distancing of at least 1 metre rather than the previous 2 m.  This allows us to use every other pew for seating at our busiest Masses (Sat 6pm & Sun 10am)  from this weekend.

Social distancing is expected to remain in place throughout the winter so we will be operating a ticket system for Masses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  More details in the next few weeks.

ST VINCENT de PAUL CHRISTMAS APPEAL

This year the SVP Christmas Appeal will be a bit different again due to the Covid restrictions. Instead of distributing toys and gifts we will be providing vouchers to parents & carers to allow them to provide gifts for their children.  We are asking for your financial help to buy vouchers and you can donate in several ways:

  • Red box collection in the church at Mass times.
  • Online at www.svp-ni.co.uk (please specify your donation is for Ballymoney, Co. Antrim.)
  • by Phone on 02890750161 (please tell them your donation is for Ballymoney, Co. Antrim).

Our conference continues to support our local community. If you need help please call us confidentially on 07860455549. We would like to thank you for your very generous ongoing support.

NOVEMBER—MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS

November Dead Lists

November dead lists and envelopes are still available in the church.  All the names are remembered and prayed for at each Mass and service this month.

Latin Requiem Mass

A Traditional Latin Requiem Mass (1962 Missal) will be
offered at 7.30pm on Monday November 22nd for all the Holy Souls in purgatory.  It will be a fully sung Mass (Missa Cantata) with visiting musicians providing the Gregorian chant.

GARDEN OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

If you would like to make a contribution to the cost of the garden of remembrance for babies who have died it would be much appreciated.  Cheques or cash can be left at the parochial house (please mark on the envelope that they are for the Garden Appeal).  You can also make a one off payment online to our bank account using the details on the opposite page.

We have currently raised £2100 towards our aim of £2500.  Thank you to everyone who has contributed.
