Second Sunday of Ordinary Time

Our Gospel reading this Sunday is the familiar story of the wedding at Cana.  Jesus, his mother Mary and his disciples are among the guests at a wedding where the hosts run out of wine.  Mary asks Jesus to do something to help them and the Lord changes their water into wine—his first miracle.

It’s a lovely moment, but there’s so much more going on here than just a miracle.  By carrying out this action Jesus is revealing publically that he has divine power, he reveals who his mother Mary is -  the ‘woman’ who has been prophesied since the beginning of the Old Testament, and he starts his public ministry which he knows will lead to his death and resurrection.  This Gospel is one of the crucial moments in the lives of Jesus and Mary and it shows us just how much we can learn by listening and studying the Word of God in the scriptures.

OLD & NEW@No.5

This week our window feature a nice pair of oak ladder back chairs and other nice pieces of small furniture.  We also have a silver tea service, paintings and reductions on our clothes and accessories.

We’re open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm and you’ll find us at 5 Gate End.

But to keep up the good work we urgently require more volunteers to assist in the shop—ideally for four hours a week or fortnight (although shorter periods may also suit).  Our current volunteers find working in the shop to be rewarding and enjoyable and there is a real sense of community within the team.

We would really encourage you to consider joining our team.  Why not ask a friend to join you and we can try and arrange for you to work the same shift?  If you are interested or would like to find out more please contact Gemma McKenna (07798501046), Gerard McAfee (07860474956) or speak to any of our team.
