Sixteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

In the first reading today we see how much God wants us to be welcoming to others.  God blesses us when we bless others and we hear in many places in the scriptures how important it is to show hospitality to strangers and visitors.

But the Gospel story of Martha and Mary shows us that there is something even more important than hospitality.  We should aim to always show Christian hospitality and concern for others, but before that we should make sure we give time to prayer with the Lord without distraction.

CLERGY APPOINTMENTS

We will welcome three new priests to our local area in August when the annual diocesan appointments take effect.  Fr Kevin McGuckien will replace Fr Austin McGirr as Parish Priest of Portstewart, Portrush and St Malachy's, Coleraine.  He will also be the Vicar Forane (senior priest) for the North Coast area.  Mgr Patrick Delargy will be coming to Portrush where he will assist with parish and university ministry (replacing Fr Raymond McCullagh).  Fr Dermot McKay will be coming to Ballinlea to assist the clergy in Ballycastle.

We send our best wishes to Fr Raymond who has been appointed parish priest of St Agnes' Parish,
Andersonstown.  Fr McGirr is retiring and has been appointed an honorary canon of the diocese.
We congratulate him and Fr Daniel Whyte who has also been appointed a canon by Bishop Treanor.  Canon Whyte served as curate here in Ballymoney from 1970 to 1983.
