Twelfth Sunday of Ordinary Time

In our Mass readings this Sunday we hear how Jesus calmed the storm which threatened his boat and frightened his disciples.  In the Bible the idea of stormy weather is often used to describe the problems of life.  At the moment we might feel that our own problems (anything from family issues to finances, health or even the Delta variant) are like dark clouds hanging over us.

But Jesus shows his disciples that the power of God is greater than any storm.  The Lord has power even over the wind and sea.  So he does not want us to be afraid, anxious or stressed.  When we're faced with worries, Jesus tells us to have faith and trust him.  As the second reading reminds us "the love of Christ overwhelms us!" and it is that loving God who will look after us in times of difficulty and who gives us peace of heart.
