Thirtieth Sunday of Ordinary Time

This Sunday is the Church's World Mission Sunday when we show our support of missionaries working around the world.

The theme Pope Francis has chosen this year is: ‘We cannot but speak about what we have seen and heard’ (Acts 4:20).  In his message for the day, the Holy Father  says: ‘Once we experience the power of God’s love we cannot help but share what we have seen and heard.  Jesus’ relationship with his disciples shows us the extent to which God loves us and makes his own our joys and sufferings, our hopes and our concerns’.

This weekend our prayer, reflection and material help will be a lifeline to missionaries in all continents who are striving to preach and live the Good News that God loves us.

THE MONTH OF THE ROSARY

October is the month of special devotion to the rosary.  For this fourth week of the month we might focus on the Glorious Mysteries:

1 The Resurrection (Matthew 28:1-2, 5-8)

2 The Ascension into Heaven (Matthew 28: 18-20)

3 The Descent of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2: 1-6)

4 The Assumption of Our Lady (Luke 1:48)

5 The Crowning of Our Lady  (Apocalypse 12:1)

Our friends at the Catholic Minute Facebook page pray the rosary together at 8pm each evening from Mondays to Thursdays.

GARDEN OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Work is continuing on our Garden of the Good Shepherd.  We are hoping to commission a stone
relief panel showing Jesus the Good Shepherd to be mounted on the garden wall.  The proposed panel will measure 74x55cm and the cost will be around £2500.

If you would like to make a contribution to the cost of the garden it would be much appreciated.  Cheques or cash can be left at the parochial house (please mark on the envelope that they are for the Garden Appeal).  You can also make a one off payment online to our bank
account using the details on the opposite page.

We have currently raised £605.  Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.

NOVEMBER DEAD LISTS

November is the month of special prayer for the Holy Souls.  From this weekend November Dead Lists and envelopes are available in the church.  Please take them home and write down the names of your deceased family and friends who you want to be prayed for.

From next weekend they can be left in the church at Mass time or posted through the door of the parochial house.  The names will be placed before the altar throughout the month of November and prayed for at every Mass and devotions.  You may wish to include an offering in your envelope and these are very gratefully received.
