Thirteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

After the six weeks of Lent, seven weeks of Easter and the consecutive feasts of Pentecost, Trinity and Corpus Christi, we move this weekend fully into the weeks of ordinary time.  The name ordinary time comes from latin—it doesn’t mean ‘boring time’ but rather ‘ordered time’ with the weeks following each other in order.  This Sunday is the thirteenth Sunday of the year and the sequence continues up until the thirty third Sunday in November.

This is a quieter half of the year in the Church’s prayer.  Green is the usual colour for this season and we’ll see it in the priest’s vestments and altar decorations.  The colour represents new life and hope.

SCHOOL LEAVERS

This week we marked the departure of our Primary 7s from St Brigid’s PS and the Yr 12s from Our Lady of Lourdes.  The children from St Brigid’s celebrated a special Mass here on Friday morning while the leavers from Our Lady of Lourdes invited Fr Damian to a prayer service in the school on Thursday afternoon.  May God bless all the leavers as they move on to new schools, colleges or new opportunities in the coming months.
